WEAVING ECOLOGICAL IDENTITIES – Listening to the world around us.
Welcome all Aurora learners and families to academic year 2025 – 2026. It was such a joy to see everyone – especially the children, who truly bring our school to life. This school year goes with the concept of “Weaving ecological identities”. Through connection with place, the seasons, plants, animals, and elements, we begin to form an ecological identity – one that understands the self as part of, not separate from, nature. Rooted in Reggio Emilia Experience as well as New Zealand Curriculum values of relationship, interdependence, and the hundred languages, this inquiry explores how learners construct meaning about themselves as part of ecological systems, cultivating care, responsibility, and awe for the world around them. By observing, listening, and responding to the rhythms and voices of the natural world, we nurture a sense of belonging that reaches beyond the human and towards an entangled, ecological self.
We’re excited for a year filled with joy, discovery, and engaging learning experiences. Our passionate teaching team is feeling energised after an inspiring week of professional development, and we can’t wait to begin this journey together!
Here’s to a fantastic year ahead!
