Aurora serves students from Early Years through to Middle School and is guided by the New Zealand Curriculum (NZC). We are seeking a passionate and skilled Japanese Language Teacher to join our growing specialist team.

The Role: Japanese Language Teacher (Years 1–10)
This role is a specialist position delivering daily Japanese language instruction across Years 1–10 through small, cross-grouped classes.
The program aligns with elements of the Japanese national curriculum while integrating Aurora’s inquiry-based, student-centered philosophy.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver Japanese lessons each day to grouped classes across year levels

  • Teach students with a wide range of abilities through differentiated instruction

  • Design engaging lessons that build language proficiency, cultural understanding, and confidence

  • Assess and monitor student progress using formative and ongoing assessment practices

  • Collaborate with homeroom teachers and leadership to support integrated learning experiences

  • Contribute to a positive, inclusive, and respectful learning environment

  • Developing and maintaining positive parent partnerships

Qualifications & Experience
Required

  • Bachelor’s Degree (Education, Japanese Language, or related field)

  • Teaching certification or equivalent

  • Minimum 2-year experience of teaching Japanese as a first or additional language

  • Ability to differentiate for mixed-age and mixed-ability groups

  • Medium to high level of English proficiency (spoken and written)

Preferred

  • Experience teaching within the Japanese education system

  • Experience in international schools or multicultural settings

  • Familiarity with inquiry-based or student-centered approaches

  • Experience supporting diverse learners
